Homework & Learning

2. Defintion • Homework: Schoolwork that a student is required to do at home. • Learning The acquisition of knowledge or skills through experience, practice, or study, or by being taught.

3. Learning… • Satisfies our curiosity • Builds our general knowledge E.g.Learning Math could help in simplifying calculation in daily life. Why do we have to learn? It is our inborn tendency to explore and understand things and events occurring around us.

4. Different ways to learn new things… • Through friends • Ideas and information are exchanged and it benefits both parties. • Improving each other’s knowledge. • Gaining new knowledges, as a result for both parties. • Through the internet • We can search for information conveniently from the Internet, such as Google, Yahoo and Wikipedia. • Large amount and variety of information are shared on the internet, world-widely. • We can learn through some of the educational videos on the net. • Providing with us first-hand news around the world. • Library • It has a large variety of books filled with information.

5. Advantages of homework… • Necessary, as it acts as a revision for students and also for teachers to gage if students understand the particular subject or topic that he/she had just taught during school time. • For us to brush up on our content knowledge. • Homework aid student as student is able to know what they do not understand in that particular topic, since they are unable to do the questions. They could ask the teachers for help.

6. Disadvantages of homework…. • Some students have problem meeting the deadline, if the teacher did not chase after them, the homework would not be submitted, resulting in student not learning what they still do not understand. • Some student tend to copy their friend’s homework, they learned nothing through the homework given.

7. Our thoughts… • Personally i think that homework is beneficial to us as some of us might be lazy to do revision on our own. Thus, when teacher give us school homework with a deadline we would have the urge to complete it and to hand it in on time. Homework enables us to learn extra skills and understanding towards the particular topic or subject, when we do homework we are also recapitulating the work that has been taught to us during curricular time in school. With these practices, we would then be able to score and ace for the subject .

8. Our thoughts… • I think homework is useful for us, as practice makes perfect. So that, we can learn and practice to answer the questions that we don’t know how to do and sharpen our skills to answer the questions. However, too much homework will cause the students to be completely stressed out.

9. Our thoughts… Homework maybe be useful or not useful, it depends on individuals. Some students, who are more diligent would take the homework seriously. While others may take the easy way out by copying for their friends or classmate’s homework. E.g. I have a friend who is very diligent, she takes every single piece of work assigned to her seriously. Hence she is able to know what she do not understand, what she understand. As a result, she could clear her doubts by understanding what she knew she did not understand.
