Local Section Bylaws & Rules Designed (we hope) to be User-Friendly and Relevant
Why the new system? • The Society and its Constituent Units are legally obligated to operate according to approved governance documents (with mandatory items) • Previous Model Bylaws • mandatory and optional items • even tweaks required burdensome Board approval • bureaucratic and dated requirements • one size fits all (not) • Questionable relevancy and usefulness – they were simply ignored
Standard Bylaws for Sections • Approved by BoD (11/01) – Underlined (mandatory) portions of former Model Bylaws • Extension of Society Bylaws and Rules (ANS national ownership) • Expression of common philosophy of governance and obligations (SocietySection) • Provides framework with minimal prescription • Amendments approved by ANS BoD with input from LSC – immediately applicable to all Sections
Local Section Rules • Mechanics of Governance • Mandated by Bylaws • Locally owned and operated • SBS and national B&R take precedence in case of conflicts
ANS National Board, Committees, Staff Divisions Division B&R Bylaws - Rules - Procedures Local Sections Standard Bylaws Plant Branches IS B&R International Sections Standard Bylaws Student Sections LS Rules SS Rules Articles of Incorporation
