  5. SABER • Sabes dónde está Juan? • Saben Uds. quíen fue a la fiesta ayer? • Sabemos que ellos cocinaron la cena.

  6. SABER • Saber followed by an infinitive means “to know how.” • Yo sé jugar fútbol. • Sabe él grabar un disco compacto?

  7. SABER and CONOCER • Both saber and conocer mean “to know.” Conocer means “to know” in the sense of being acquainted or familiar with a person, place, or thing.

  9. The Verb CONOCER • Remember the personal “a”? • Conozco a María Teresa. • Conoces a ellas? Si las conozco. • Conozco Madrid. • Why is it not used above?

  10. The Verb CONOCER • Conocer is followed by the personal a when the direct object is a person. • Direct object pronouns can also be used with conocer.
