  4. Right-of-Way Ownership • Added complexity • Freight railroads (55%) • County commissions/local transportation agencies (45%) • 80 percent single track north of L.A. • Approx. 50 percent single track in San Diego County; top speeds of 90 mph

  7. Room for Improvement • One corridor, three operators, multiple ticket types • No uniform technology (TAP/Compass card, mobile, paper, barcode)

  8. Transit Transfer Program • Cap-and-trade application – one-year demo • Seamless transfer from Pacific Surfliner to 12 local transit operators at 27 stations • On-board sale of discounted Metro TAP pass

  9. Statewide Perspective • Three existing state-funded corridors • 1 in 5 Amtrak passengers use California services • Annual ridership 5.5 million+ • Three emerging corridors • Need to ensure connectivity

Next Steps • Complete negotiations of interagency transfer agreement with State of California • Close coordination with San Joaquin corridor • Expected approval in June 2015, transfer beginning in summer 2015 • Submit final business plan with key initiatives • Finalize staffing and transition plans • Work on statewide initiatives (equipment purchase, integrated schedules and ticketing) • Continue to work with member agencies and partners on regional/statewide coordination
