As we can see, brain activity during REM sleep is similar to that when we're awake and alert, because our brains during REM are typically engaged in vivid dreaming.

Sleep DisordersLO 5.3 Identify the features and causes of sleep disorders. • Narcolepsy is the rapid and unexpected onset of sleep. • Some can experience cataplexy as well • Due to lack of orexin production • Sleep apnea is caused by the blockage of the airway during sleep. • May wake briefly hundreds of times per night, causing fatigue and other health problems
