Analysis of KEK Data Update Aron Fish Tracker Workshop 6th August 2006 Osaka
Contents • Hackers • Track Fit and Seed • Momentum Distributions • Next Steps
Imperial Computing Problems • Apologies for lack of results!! • Progress has been affected by serious problems at IC to the Linux server ==> no access to G4MICE since start of July!! • So to have some analysis work to present at this meeting I have now put G4MICE and other external libraries on my laptop (Many thanks to M. Ellis for helping with this!!). This was only just completed before I flew out to Osaka, so I have only had a few jet-lagged days to do this analysis.
Track Fit • Ultimate goal is to use G4MICE to reconstruct the momentum in the tracker. • Two pieces need to be improved for the final analysis: • The seed to the Kalman fit • Propagation through a non uniform magnetic field • This talk will discuss work on the Kalman fit seed.
Kalman Fit • G4MICE uses the “RecPack” Kalman package. • As the MICE tracker only has a few points, the quality of the initial seed to the track fit has a strong effect on the final fit. • Current work is aimed at writing and fully testing some new code to provide a good seed to the fit.
Seed - 3 Points • A new routine has been added that takes three space points and the local magnetic field value and returns the 3 momentum. • The routine determines the radius of the circle in the X,Y plane and from that the PT, and looking in the R vs Z plane determines PZ.
Status • A first version of the routine has been written and has been tested and debugged in the transverse plane. • There are some problems with the determination of PZ that still need to be ironed out. • The results presented today are taking the Monte Carlo truth values, once the 3-momentum is correct, we will use reconstructed space points and repeat the exercise.
Simulation • For technical reasons, the KEK configuration was broken when this analysis was started. • The simulation used was of MICE Stage VI, looking at the upstream tracker. • Now that the problem has been fixed, the KEK configuration can be simulated with a uniform magnetic field. • If we can obtain the coil positions and currents for the JACEE magnet, then G4MICE can be used to simulate the real field map.
PZ Resolution • The maths to work out PZ is correct as can be seen from the straight line but the algorithm needs to be worked on to cope with ambiguous topologies.
Next Steps • Fix problem in PZ reconstruction. • Repeat analysis using reconstructed space points. • Run simulation of KEK setup (not MICE Stage VI) • Modify official track fit code to use this new seed routine. • Study momentum resolution of tracker (KEK and MICE Stage VI) with new seed.
