Many people saw the problems in shrines and solved the problems themselves.
In this way, wasan spread many places in Japan. Especially we call the wasan which offered to shrines ;“SANGAKU”.
“SAN ” means mathematic. • “GAKU” means board. • “SANGAKU” means boards which mathematics problems and solutions were written.
Why did they offer the problem to shrine? • They showed their own results. • They thanked God or Buddha. • They hoped their accomplishment in studying.

“Wasan” are too difficult for us to understand. They had a lot of calculation and they only enjoyed. They couldn’t discover the mathematical systems with logic. It has never developed as a science.
