Tabs on 32’,28’,26’,24’&10’ Ladders

Tabs on 32’,28’,26’,24’&10’ Ladders Please Remember Before using a ladder on a daily basis a visual inspection “SHALL” be completed. • Concerns have been identified with the Tab on some 32’, 28’, 26’ , 24’ &10’ Ladders- see picture: • NOTE: Managers to share information with all technicians. • ** If tab is stressed and ladder not at correct angle and tab sustaining all force the ladder could slide out or feet could fold over and jolt ladder creating a fall ! • The ladder must be inspected and set up at the fire mans angle as per our esp’s , not following this practice could put too much stress on the tab and cause it to fail. • This potential failure would be experienced when tech has ascended ladder and creating more force on tab if ladder at incorrect angle • If angle is incorrect as per picture below the ladder will balance on the incorrect placed feet and tab potentially could fail • An inventory of all ladder feet tabs must occur forthwith by operation manager involving your respective safety rep • Observations to be documented and deficiencies addressed • Repair work can be done in field by qualified ladder repair technicians as replacements parts will be shipped to work centers as required • There is no concern with ladder or it’s integrity when rubber feet are not be used If the ladder is not at the proper angle, the tabs will force the feet not to sit flat, tabs then take all the force and potentially could fail If the ladder is positioned at the correct fireman's angle(75degrees), the tabs actual force the feet to sit flat on the ground as well as helping to prevent ladder kick out Produced by Ontario H&S Advisor 2012-12-21
