Vol. 2 Can It Be? How Many Animals on Noah’s Ark? Bucket Clocks?
The Age of the Earth • We are taught that the Earth is 4.5 billion years old • How do they know?
Radiometric Dating • Works on the principle that radioactive elements “leak” from rocks that contain them • This happens at a constant rate (from all we have observed and been told) • We know that rate • According to uniformitarianism, that rate has never changed
Uniformitarianism • In the philosophy of naturalism, the uniformitarianism assumption is that the same natural laws and processes that operate in the universe now, have always operated in the universe in the past and apply everywhere in the universe. • Naturalism: a philosophical worldview and belief system that holds that there is nothing but natural elements, principles, and relations of the kind studied by the natural sciences
Radiometric Dating (Pretend a half-life of 1 billion years—the true λ=4.5by)

Tapeats Sandstone Cardenas Basalt
The Cardenas Basalt • Sm-Nd 1.588 B • Rb-Sr 1.03 B • K-Ar 0.516 B • The differences are greater than a billion years! • That’s more than 22% of the Earth’s “history”
What about Carbon-14? • C-14 has a half-life of 3750 years • It’s no good for OLD things • Neither should it appear in OLD things… • But it does! OLD things like… • Coal beds • Fossils • Diamond
Is there other evidence that the earth is old? • Yes • And MOST of it relies on radiometric assumption • Yes • SoCan It Be? that the Earth is young.; that is, thousands, not billions Is there another option?
What does the Bible say? • Two of every kind • The question, then, is “What is a kind?”
Is a “kind” a species? • There are an estimated 3-30 million species of animals on earth • Is every “species” necessary? • For example: dogs
I did the math myself • Volume of the Ark: 1,518,750 cu.ft. • Boxcar: 2670 cu.ft. • That’s just 568 rail cars • 1 box car = 55 cows • 568 box cars = 31,240 cows • Ave. cow 1600 lb; ave. sheep 200 lb • Say 4 sheep to each 1 cow = 124,960 sheep
Results • If we only needed 50,000 animals, we still have 60% of the Ark’s capacity for storage and living quarters • So Can It Be? That the Ark really was big enough to house all those animals with supplies and 8 people for over a year?
