We do not read about God being –Love, Love Love, 0r Truth, Truth, Truth. • He is only called Holy, Holy, Holy. • What does the Scripture teach us the Holiness of God?
1. His Holiness is Incomparable • We have no other standard. • He is the standard of Holiness. • He demand His creation to conform to His standard.
Exodus 15:11 – “Who is like unto thee, O LORD….” • 1 Samuel 2:2 – “There is none holy as the LORD”
2. His Holiness can be seen. • His Name – • Isaiah 57:15 – “whose name is Holy…” • Luke 1:49 – “Holy is His name.” b. In His Words • Jeremiah 23:9 – “the words of His holiness”
c. In His Works > Psalms 145:17 – “..holy in all his works.”
3. His Holiness is to be imitated • Leviticus 11:44-45 – “You shall be holy, for I am Holy.” • 1 Peter 1:15-16 – “ be holy in all manner.” • But why is Holiness important?
Psalm 15:1-5 – “Who can dwell in God’s tent?” • The answer is “he who leads a holy life.” • Being honest, not slandering people; fear the Lord, keep your word etc.
These are all characteristics of holiness. • He wants us to take sin serious. • We are not to justify but grieve over sin.
Fellowship happens when two are in agreement. • God hates sin. • He hates lustful thoughts. • He hates our pride and jealousy.
He hates our outburst of temper. • We too must hate what God hates. • We must have a Godly MIND –SET. • We must think as God thinks. • Strive to understand the purity of God.
We need to understand that sin destroys us. • Romans 6:23 – “wages of sin is death.” • God wants us to live a spiritually healthy life.
That’s why He disciplines us. • Hebrews 12:6-7. • He corrects us because He loves us. • He wants us to be pure and holy.
David knew the effects of unconfessed sin. • Psalms 32:3 – Sin affected his life – even to his bones. • Sin will kill us.
2 Tim.2:21 – Holiness and usefulness are linked together. • We can not be an effective servant if we are an unclean vessel.
2 Tim.2:22-23 – God wants us holy to be effective. • We need to be clean vessels.
True faith will always show itself by its fruits. • Matt. 7:17-20 – “by their fruits we will know.” • The working of the Holy Spirit in a person’s life is always evident by the fruit they bear.
Is there evidence of holiness in my life? • Do I desire and try to become more like Christ everyday? • Do I grieve over the lack of purity in my life?
What fruit am I bearing today? • “By their fruits you will know them.”
