12 out of 32 local authorities declared AQMAs in 2008 of which 8 have been for PM10 (or PM10 & NO2) = 14 PM10 related AQMAs • A reduction of just 2ug of PM10 can mean the difference between declaring or not declaring an AQMA in many Scottish local authorities • The cumulative impact of biomass boilers on PM10 & PM2.5 loads in urban areas can be significant and will make it difficult to achieve exposure reduction targets • The ratio of PM10:PM2.5 measured in Scotland is consistent with the European average of 0.65 validating the figures proposed by the SG or future targets for both pollutants
