  5. King Henry VIII • was a very important monarch • Britain became indepen-dent of the Roman Catholic Church • Britain got richer and more powerful • in 1534 the Parliament named Henry head of the Church of England and gave all the power in the country

  7. Queen Victoria (1819-1901) • She ruled for the longest period in the English history, for 64 years • England became a rich industrial country with a developed trade ,an empire with lot of colonies

  19. Westminster Abbey • is one of the most famous English churches • is more than 900 years old • is famous for its Poet’s Corner too • many English queens and kings are buried there

  20. The Houses of Parliament • is a long grey building with towers • Big Ben is the largest clock in one of the towers

  22. The State Emblem • Shows the union of its four parts - the emblem of England (three lions on a red background) - the emblem of Scotland (a red lion on a yellow background) - the emblem of Northern Ireland (a yellow harp on a blue background)
