  2. Think: What are specific elements of a story? What must every story have? • Share with a partner. • Let’s list them:

  3. WRITING PROMPT • Write a make believe Halloween story. Make sure your story has a beginning, middle, and end with a well developed setting and plot.

  4. Let’s brainstorm what our story must have. 5 4 3 2 1

  5. Pick a setting.

  6. In your writing journal, brainstorm the different aspects of your setting. • Time • Place • Environment • Mood • Characters

  7. Schedule • MONDAY-PRE-WRITE • TUESDAY-ROUGH DRAFT • WEDNESDAY-ROUGH DRAFT • If not finished in class to be take home for homework • THURSDAY-SELF EDIT/BUDDY EDIT • FRIDAY-FINAL DRAFT

PRE-WRITE • What are some different organizers we can use to organize our thoughts for our story? • Let’s learn about a new graphic organizer. • Fold a piece of scratch paper into sixths and draw out the main events of your story in each square. Make sure you have an introduction, climax, and resolution. • When you are done add action verbs to your squares. These action verbs should help tell the story. • Retell your story to two buddies.

  9. Rough Draft • Review prompt. • Review rubric. • Get out your pre-write from yesterday and retell your story to one other person to review your thoughts and ideas. • Begin writing your story. • REMEMBER TO SKIP LINES.

  10. EDITING AND REVISING • Read self editing check list. • Read story out loud, make changes, fill out self editing check list. • Find two different people and read your story aloud. • Together fill out the buddy editing check list. • Begin your final draft.

  11. Final Draft • Review prompt. • Review rubric. • Get out your rough draft and from yesterday and re read your story one more time. • Begin writing your final draft.
