  2. Day 1:

A closer look at the Duck Tour and Prudential Center • What intrigues me to want to take a Duck Tour? • First an explanation—a Duck Tour is a tour of Boston in an amphibious vehicle used during World War II. The tour travels the streets of Boston and takes a splash in the Charles River for a view of the skyline. I can’t think of a cooler way to gain an overview of the city than this! • What intrigues me about visiting the Prudential Center? • I knew very little about the Prudential Center until I began researching the Duck Tours. As it turns out, the Prudential Center is the starting point for the tour. After doing a little research on the Prudential Center I found its Skywalk to be worth a visit as incredible views of the city can be seen from high above. Yet another great way to kick off the trip.

A Closer Look at The Freedom Trail & Faneuil Hall • Why am I intrigued to visit the Freedom Trail? • Freedom Trail encompasses 16 historic sites in Boston ranging from the Revolutionary Way era to the Abolitionist Movement. As one article stated, “A simple walk around the core area of Boston will give the visitor several slices of American history (Boston Bastion of American History).” My family, dad in particular, love to visit historical sites to relive bits of history in our minds. This makes the Freedom Trail a can’t miss stop on our trip! • Why am I intrigued to visit Faneuil Hall? • Faneuil Hall is a historic building located along the Freedom Trail that has been transformed into a shopping mall of sorts. What more could I ask for—shopping and history in the same place!

A Closer Look at The New England Aquarium, Filene’s Basement & Fenway Park • Why am I intrigued to visit the New England Aquarium? • Since I was a child, I have been interested in ocean life which has led me to visit an aquarium in each of the cities I have visited. Additonally, from my reading in Access Boston, I see that the New England Aquarium is filled with multiple interesting exhibits including the Sea Lion Show and the Aquarium Hospital where visitors can watch veternarians treat sick/hurt aquarium animals. Sounds interesting! • Why am I intrigued to visit Filene’s Basement? • This quote pretty much sums it up “If you’re a bargain shopper, there’s still nothing quite like the thrill of taking the escalator down into the belly of the original Filene’s Basement…” (About) “Bargain shopper” describes me to a t! • Why am I intrigued to visit Fenway Park? • Baseball in the summer has always been a much enjoyed past time for my family. In fact, in every city we visit in the summer we try to catch a MLB game. Besides who would pass up a chance to see the World Champion Red Sox play in historic Fenway Park. Afterall, as about.com states, “there is no better place to be in New England than historic Fenway Park.”

A closer look at Harvard and MIT • What intrigues me about visiting Harvard and MIT? • Though my college days are over, I find it interesting to visit other campuses—comparing and contrasting them to UGA. Not to mention the fact that Harvard is just one of those historical must-see places. Equally as enticing are some of the science-based sites—Strobe Alley, Rogers Building, Great Dome to see at MIT. Not to be forgotten are the many nearby shops that surround the Harvard and MIT campuses!
