  2. Treatments • Zoloft is used to treat depression, OCD, PTSD, panic disorder and social phobia in children and adults. This medicine was introduced in 1991 and is currently the second most prescribed medicine for depression.

  3. Mechanisms • Zoloft is primarily a serotonin reuptake inhibitor, which means it blocks the reuptake channels in the brain. It also works as a dopamine inhibitor.

  4. Side Effects • Zoloft use during birth can cause birth defects when used if pregnant. • Zoloft is also associated with sexual arousal disorder or genital arousal disorder. • As with all anti-depressants, Zoloft may increase the risk of suicide in persons under 25. Suicide risk doubles for those under 18. • Discontinuation can also result in withdrawl.

  5. Affected Areas • Zoloft mostly affects the brain through psychological changes.
