The saboteur Some of the common messages a saboteur say to you are: • “Don’t do that, they’re not going to like it.” • “That’s a stupid idea so don’t even try.” • “Are you kidding? You don’t have enough (time/money/skill) to do that properly.” • “Stick with what you know, don’t take chances.” • “You’re too old to start something new.” • “You’re too young to accomplish that.”
The saboteur I the area of procrastination, it can be especially powerful: • “Don’t bother with that right now, it can wait.” • “You’ve worked so hard all day; you deserve to take a rest.” • “Relax, take a walk, watch some television – you’ve earned it. You can do that later.” • “You don’t have enough information to make that call.” • and my personal favourite: “You need to get organized before you can start that task.”

Addressing procrastination with an external agent • Speak to several coaches/consultants: Ask if they can coach the “saboteur” – the self-talk that keeps you from being in action. Do they know what that is?
Addressing procrastination with an external agent • Speak to several coaches • Check credentials: Has the coach trained and taken exams with a certification body?
Addressing procrastination with a life coach • Speak to several coaches • Check credentials • Set up a sample session: Most coaches/consultants will offer a short session (20 min - 40 min) for free or for a low fee.
