  2. Historical Facts “And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” (John 8:32) Fr. Marcus Mansour St. Mark Coptic Orthodox Church Phoenix, Arizona Servants Preparation 2005-2006

  3. Introduction In the Creed, which we repeat frequently in our daily prayers, we say: “We believe … and in One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. We confess one baptism for the remission of sins, …”. It is amazing how many churches we have today, and how each church insists that she is the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic church! (Gal 4:4,5)

  4. Introduction How did the One church divide into the many fragmented churches around us today? Today, churches may be classified in one of four major groups: • The Orthodox Church • The Catholic Church • The Protestant (Reformation) churches • The Cults

  5. Introduction • The Orthodox Church is unfortunately divided into two major families of Churches: • the “Eastern” or “Byzantine” Orthodox • the “Oriental” Orthodox • The Catholic Church, although its name implies one universal Church, contains a variety of ethnic churches with differences in the way the faith is expressed, such as the Roman, the Greek, the Coptic, the Maronite Catholic churches, and so on…

  6. Introduction • The Protestant Churches, although begun as an attempt to reform the Catholic Church, have divided into over 300 denominational and non-denominational churches such as: • Baptist • Methodist • Anglican (Episcopalian) • Lutheran • Assembly of God • many, many others…
