Pechakucha 3 Progress. Concept. Evaluation
Progress and Achievement Throughout my time on this course pathway so far, I have learned a lot of valuable skills that have been very important in shaping my desired outcome of this course, it has helped me understand many different mediums to work with and has helped me experiment with a lot more than I would have done prior to starting. After all of my experimentation this year, I have had an extreme interest in animation after realizing the endless possibilities. I have been inspired by the many short films I have seen while here and I have also been introduced to software and techniques that I didn’t know about before this course such as Adobe After Effects and Storyboarding I have used this knowledge to practice these things to learn how to animate as best I can and I have achieved a lot of test animations on important a foundations such as motion and sound, because of this, I have decided that I would like to use animation in my final major project to create a short film.
Project Concept The basic aim that I want for my Final Major Project will revolve around fear and how fear can be used in media to get an emotional response from the viewer and testing the limit of them at the same time. I have been very fascinated by the way that a scary atmosphere and certain sound can trigger a much more exciting reaction than many other methods, at least for me anyway and also I have found that picking on common phobias and nightmares can also make the audience empathize with a certain victim in the feature. During the course of the project I would like to research into some other animators that create unsettling work such as David Firth and research more into some of the more common fears and try to gain an overall better understanding of what causes people to get scared. Using this research I will be able to achieve a much greater response. I will also use my own experiences in order to add a more personal meaning to the piece itself. • Some of my early ideas include: • A short frame-by-frame/clay animation of a person being tormented by his/her nightmares to the point where they start to lose control and sees them I real life • A short animation of a documentary on fear which slowly starts to get more disturbing as it goes on • A short animation of a teenager trapped in an office building at night and as the tension builds, so does the weird unnatural occurrences I would like to make my animation in Adobe Flash mainly but I would also like to implement some Claymation as well because it can often provide a good effect when it comes to fear as proven by a lot of animators. I would also like to use Adobe Premier and After effects for some finishing touches.
Evaluation At the end of this project I would like to have used a range of methods in my animation in order to learn more about the ways in which it can be completed to a good standard and to test my own abilities and even push myself further. The main aim of my intended project is to create an emotional short film that will try to use fear to manipulate the audience, I will use this idea to evaluate my work in the conclusion and I will also compare it to other animations of the same type in order to see where I can improve in the future and I would also like to evaluate if this project has helped me decide that animation is the right thing for me.
