Unique new look for Simonsig Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz On behalf of the Malan family from Simonsig Wine Estate, we take great pleasure in introducing you to our new packaging for two of the wines from Simonsig; the Simonsig Chenin Blanc 2016 and Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz 2015. After a year of conceptualization and development, working closely with leading South African designer Anthony Lane, our new bottle and label design combines tradition with contemporary style and finesse. As our respected partner, we would like to take this opportunity to provide you with some background information about why we decided to embark on a redesign and what it signifies for Simonsig. This rich legacy is reflected in the bold use of the Malan family crest and the date 1688 that has been emblazoned directly onto the bottle. To further emphasize the importance of heritage to the Simonsig brand, a vivid red crest adorns the label, while high quality, slightly off-white paper with a serrated edge and clean typeface contributes to the classic yet contemporary feel. The redesign of our existing packaging is not a decision we took lightly, but to ensure continuous and growing support for the Simonsig brand, we intend to appeal to new and diverse consumer markets worldwide, meeting their specific expectations and requirements. SimonsigCabernet Sauvignon Shiraz 2015 Description:The color is a dark ruby red; the aromas are of red berries layered with exotic cherry flavors. Hints of vanilla and spice resonate on the palate leaving a finishing touch of subtle oak notes lingering on the finish. Winemaker’s Notes: First introduced in 2003, the healthy grapes for the 2015 vintage delivered with beautiful layers of fruit and we are very excited about the 2015 vintage. The 2015 harvest was definitely one for the books. The dry weather also led to a very healthy vintage. The Cabernet Sauvignon was picked mid-March and the specially selected Shiraz blocks were picked in the beginning of March. Serving Hints:A great accompaniment with pizza, burgers, beef carpaccio and other hearty meat dishes. SimonsigChenin Blanc 2016 Description: The wine displays a bright straw color that screams tropical fruit in the glass. The fresh acidity adds to the longevity of an array of white pear and melon with an undertone of guava. An unpretentious wine that over delivers on the nose and palate, stating itself as an any occasion companion. Winemaker’s Notes: It was a challenging, early and very dry harvest. Water supplies had a great impact on the 2016 harvest, especially where vineyards were not buffered against the heat. However, the dry conditions led to the vineyards and grapes being very healthy overall. Most other regions, especially the Swartland, produced significant smaller crops but at Simonsig estate, we produced 2% more than 2015. The Chenin Blanc grapes were in pristine condition. It was quite a challenge picking the various blocks on time before the sugar levels sky rocketed. We were able to produce beautiful building blocks with an abundance of fruit and depth. Grapes were handpicked, crushed and some lots given overnight skin contact. Juice was cold settled to brilliant clarity and inoculated with selected yeast strains known for producing very fruity wines. Fermentation temperature was kept between 53-55 °F to ensure a nice slow fermentation and optimal fruit flavor production. Serving Hints:This wine should be served slightly chilled as an aperitif, or with lighter seafood dishes. Other excellent pairings include goat cheese, citrus salad or steamed mussels as well as roast chicken.
