Mission Statement “The purpose of Phi Theta Kappa shall be to recognize and encourage scholarship among two-year college students. To achieve this purpose, Phi Theta Kappa shall provide opportunity for the development of leadership and service, for an intellectual climate for exchange of ideas and ideals, for lively fellowship for scholars, and for stimulation of interest in continuing academic excellence.” • Phi Theta Kappa’s mission is two-fold: • Recognize and encourage the academic achievement of two-year college students; and, • Provide opportunities for individual growth and development through participation in honors, leadership, service and fellowship programming. Transformations: Acknowledging, Assessing, and Achieving Change • January 1, 2018 – December 31, 2019 • Designed to engage students in informed action that fosters student success and helps fulfill our mission to provide college students opportunities to grow as scholars and leaders. • There are 9 themes to study
Themes • Networks of Life • Economies of Everything • Politics of Identity • Dynamics of Discovery • Channels of Creativity • Visions of Justice • Powers of Connection • Worlds of Work • Systems of Belief Each theme is followed by an overall question to answer as well as a piece with a couple examples of Real-world problems. And, they provide you with more to read options about the theme. At the end of the guide you will find a rubric.

Service project • We have chosen to give back in the form of helping senior citizens. • Throughout North and South Carolina, there are assistance programs to help organize different projects to help senior citizens. • #Support4Seniors
Honors in Action • Theme 5: Channels of Creativity • How does our view of art transform us and the world around us? • Students who study art are 4 times more likely to be recognized for academic achievement and 3 times more likely to be awarded for school attendance. • Music programs are constantly in danger of being cut from shrinking school budgets even though they're proven to improve academics. Show educators how important arts are in your community. Facts • Purpose is to help develop a plan to enhance your marketable skills to make you more competitive for SCHOLARSHIPS, TRANSFERRING and CAREERS. • Strengthens soft skills, creates career development plan, and you gain a competitive advantage. • Focuses on a list of skills: communication, interpersonal, critical thinking and researching, planning and cultural awareness. • The most recent survey conducted by National Association of Colleges and Employers show 77.8% of employers seek a candidate with the following attributes: Leadership and ability to work as a team! Following that at 73.4% is communication skills (written). • Competitive Edge consists of readings, videos, quizzes, activities to practice your skills, and personal reflection journal. • It is open to members, advisors, and alumni. • And, it is SELF-PACED.
