Express Entry program for Canada Express Entry program for Canada working exceptionally well working exceptionally well The Canadian immigration authority IRCC’s flagship immigration program – Express Entry has been one of the most successful programs of its nature by any country. At once, both effective and user friendly the program has been successful in bringing in hundreds of highly skilled candidates into the country. According to the Director of Express Entry and Digital Policy, Mr.Patrick McEvenue, the Express Entry program which was instituted to attract highly skilled foreign workers for immigration to Canada, has been working extremely well. However a few improvements to the skill sets maybe required, revealed the official in a talk at the 2018 Canadian immigration summit, which was held recently. The director stated that his department would conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the program to fully understand the strengths, weaknesses and impact of the program. Express Entry targets meeting expectations The Canada immigration authorities by and large agree that the program is meeting the expectations of the government for its ability to bring in talented candidates with the right degree of education and skills to help bridge the labor gap and boost the Canadian economy. The program has helped to bring in almost three times more candidates having an educational background in the STEM
areas, which is one of the core requirements for Canadian employers at present. Other improvement to the system is the reduced processing time as well as the increased transparency of the system. Moreover, the connection between the express entry programs for immigration to Canada and the provincial nominee programs for various provinces is constantly evolving and the government is planning on expanding it further. Canadian government targeting more people in the Express Entry pool for immigration Currently each candidate is given a score which is based on his education, work experience, age and proficiency in English and/or French. Candidates who obtain a score above a minimum “cut-off” score as decided by the Canada immigration authority are invited to apply for Canada PR visa. The government is planning to increase its immigration targets to go deeper into the express entry pool and increase year on year admission to the economic immigration programs. By increasing the number of immigrants it targets for its express entry program, the IRCC would in effect be lowering the CRS scores, thus enabling more people to enter Canada express entry program and the economic immigration programs such asFederal Skilled Trades Class, the Federal Skilled Worker Class, and the Canadian Experience Class.Another focus area for the revamp of the express entry program would be to take into account the evolving nature of work and making sure that the skills that are targeted reflect the change. The program would be able to cater to the needs of Canadian employers in a better manner by targeting candidates with skill sets that they require. The Canadian government is also looking at ways to use the program to enhance the community at large, by bringing in people who will fit well into the fabric of society.
