2. THE HAR KI DOON EXPERIENCE 7 days, 6 nights Detailed Itinerary As we arrive at Dehradun railway station, we are driven to Sankri, which is 220 kms from Dehradun in Uttarkashi district. Although it takes us about 10-11 hours to reach Sankri, our route is extremely beautiful. Situated at an elevation of 1,950 m, it offers tourists and locals a surreal view of the mountains and calls out to outdoors and nature enthusiasts! DAY 1 We wake up to a gorgeous, chilly morning made better only by a piping hot cuppa and a steaming bucket of water! Our layover at Sankri is important in helping us acclimatise to the rarer high altitude environment. After a sumptuous breakfast, we begin our day with a drive to Taluka, which is 12 kms from Sankri. Once here, we embark on what will be a fascinating journey through Uttarakhand's alpine forests. Our route takes us to Osla, which is 14 kms away. On our trail, we cross the Siyan Gad by bridge to reach Dhatmir village. We then head towards the right side of the Tons River where we catch some spectacular sights. From here, you can see the landscape bedecked with sprawling wild orchids and encounter some Himalayan wildlife that includes barking deer and boars among others. Since we reach Osla by late noon, we have time to explore the area and then spend the night camping under a sky filled with seemingly countless stars. DAY 2 From Osla, we prepare ourselves for the climb to Har Ki Doon! This 14-km scenic trail takes us about 5-6 hours to complete. Located at the base of Fateh Parvat, Har Ki Doon, is elevated at 3,558 m. Also known as the 'Valley of Gods', the vistas that can be seen from here are studded by great snow-clad Himalayan peaks. Enjoy a few moments taking in the tranquil sounds of the birds murmuring in the quiet breeze. DAY 3 Get ready as we trek to Jaundhar Glaciers! The Jaundhar Glaciers are divided into north and south glaciers. Our trek here serves as a striking contrast to the lush green valleys at Har Ki Doon. We traverse through moraine and scree, which makes it an enthralling trekking expedition in Uttarkashi. With the Swargarohini Peak overlooking the glacier, the view is truly amazing! 3. THE HAR KI DOON EXPERIENCE 7 days, 6 nights Detailed Itinerary With a short 3-hour trek, we trace our way back to Osla situated 11 kms away. As we descend along our trail, we bid the mountains farewell because our trip is coming to an end. DAY 5 Soak in as much as you can on this last day of the trek. En route, you can enjoy the views of sanctuaries and parks. The ambience of the setting sun behind the mountains, the pleasant breeze and the sound of the birds chirping make this a delightful way to end the trek. We first trek 13 kms from Osla to Taluka, and from Taluka, we are driven back to Sankri where we spend the night. DAY 6 Today, from Sankri we make our way to Dehradun by road. We reach Dehradun by evening and celebrate our expedition to Har Ki Doon. Although our trip has come to an end, we leave with sights and sounds of the Valley of Gods and our trail forever etched in our memories.
