New Moon is the sequel to Stephanie Meyer’s remarkably good debut novel Twilight
The pain that Bella feels when Edward abandons her is extremely well written and is really what this story is about
Bella has been going out with her vampire boyfriend Edward for six blissfully happy months.
The only thing that worries her is his steadfast refusal to even consider making her into a vampire like him.
On Bella's eighteenth birthday, Edward manages to persuade her to come to his house on the evening of her birthday for a party thrown by Alice.
Bella receives a paper cut while opening one of her gifts, causing Jasper (Edward's brother, also the 'newest' member of the family) to try to attack her.
Edward believes that she would be safer without him, his family, and his dangerous style of life, so he and his family leave Forks
Bella sinks into a deep depression for four months, until she is 'awoken' out of her depression by Charlie, her father. He threatens to send her back to live with her mother in Jacksonville, Florida
Still depressed, she becomes closer friends with Jacob Black, who fixes a motorcycle for her and teaches her to ride.
Through small clues he drops, she finally realizes what has happened to her best friend: he has become a werewolf.
Alice sees Bella jump, a cliff she believes Bella had committed suicide, and subsequently returns to Forks
Edward attempts to convince a group of Italian vampires, the volturi, to kill him
Together with his sister Alice, Bella rushes to Italy and stops Edward before the Volturi can destroy him
She eventually forgives him entirely, and they continue with their relationship as though Edward had never left
with the exception that Bella has ties that cannot be broken with a werewolf named Jacob Black
Bella successfully seeks the support of Edward's family on turning her into a vampire.
While Edward is furious at the prospect, he later agrees to change her himself if she agrees to marry him first
