XXL Magazine Front Cover • The main image of the magazine is of rapper 50 Cent’s face. 50 Cent is a globally recognised rap artist and will immediately attract interest from those who see the magazine. We can see 50 cent raising his left eyebrow showing us the self confidence he has and the authority he has over those around him. We could also say that he’s assuring people of his high status and reputation. • The Masthead stands out as it contrasts to the other colours on the magazine. Making the background of the font red makes the name of the magazine stand out. The masthead is placed in front of 50 Cent’s face just above the raised eyebrow. XXL magazine use the same colour, font etc. on their masthead for every single issue they sell to allow interested customers to remember the magazine well for future purchases. • The obvious main cover line on the front cover on this magazine is in the bottom left hand corner which says ‘THE POWER OF 50’ this refers to 50 Cent’s very high status and reputation within the industry, this also reflects on his facial expression. We can see the ‘50’ in the main cover line is bigger than the other text in the main cover line, this tries to focus on how big and important 50 Cent is and how he is above everyone else. • We also have very big names within the industry on the sell on lines which further attracts interest from potential buyers. Having 50 Cent on the front cover is a big attraction but to have names like Lil Wayne, Nelly, DMX and Bow Wow featuring inside the magazine shows that the magazine is respected by famous artists and they draw in all the best artists of their genre. • The header can be important to attract potential buyers as it briefly explains what you can expect to read in the magazine. On this issue the header doesn’t carefully explain what is inside but it says ‘HIP-HOP ON A HIGHER LEVEL’ we can see that there are stories inside by big name artists which raises the profile of the magazine. By doing this XXL magazine attract all customers to their magazine because of their big name features.
