Lesson Objectives Examine how nationalism, imperialism and war can be related. Determine causes of World War I. Learn how science and technology made this war different from previous wars.
Terms to Know Imperialism: The pursuit of economic and political control over foreign territories. Nationalism: Pride in one’s country, which can be constructive, however, destructive when it causes one nation to harm another in order to get ahead.
Alliance: An agreement between countries to protect and defend each other. Militarism: The use of strong armies and the threat of force to gain power.
