  3. Attended yale for art • Bored in art class • Played football • Won championship • No pads, helmets • Loved the excitement & a team hero

  4. Admired his dad, who was a civil war hero Taught Frederic to be respectful of horses & told him stories of cowboys

  5. At 19, left for montana & rode through the west • One night around a campfire, spoke with a wagon driver about the wild west changing • Wild West would be gone and replaced with people & buildings • Decided at that moment to record the Wild West before it disappeared
