About the Author This eBook was created as an assignment to better understand how very young children learn reading through exposure to everyday things in their environment. I found it especially interesting since my own daughter, Elizabeth, learned her first letter, at age three, from the Pepsi sign we would pass to and from daycare each day. By the time she was four years old she had mastered many familiar words, such as Pop and Mom. When Christmas came, Elizabeth was so pleased to be able to pass out the gifts, since she could read the name tags. Until she came across one of mine. She knew the “P” in the beginning, but did not recognize the word. When we told her it was for me from my father, a look of confusion came across her face as she said “Pahyllis?” Now that I am studying to be an educator, I hope to remember all the precious learning moments of my children’s youth. Enjoy this eBook and make a memory for yourself while building your children’s literary skills. Phyllis Ingle
