  1. Five Questions A way to Knowing God

  2. What is your belief? • Do you have any kind of spiritual beliefs? • Muslim • Judaism • Hinduism • Christianity • other

  3. Who is Jesus? • To you, who is Jesus? • a teacher • a spiritual leader • a prophet • a savior

  4. Eternity, how do you understand it? • Do you think there is a heaven and a hell? • yes • no • don’t know

  5. A matter of the heart • If you died right now where would you go? • heaven • hell • don’t know

  6. An honest question • If what you believe were not true, would you want to know it? • yes • no

  7. The Five Answers • Let’s hear what the bible says as it relates to the questions asked above.

  8. Question 1 • Question 1 – If your answer is a, b, or c, then did you know that the bible says: • “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” (Romans 3;23)? • That all includes you and me. We’ve all fallen short of the glory (standards) of God. • So what does that mean: • For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23) • Notice it says sin. Just ONE sin, that’s all it takes to condemn us to death. You could substitute the word death for hell. This means if you have lied, stolen, envied, sworn, gossiped, or done any misdeed, then you are heading towards hell!

  9. Question 2 • For the second question: To you, who is Jesus Christ? If your answer is anything but d then you need to look at the second part of Romans 6:23 which states “… but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Eternal life or heaven comes through Jesus. Please note the following scriptures:

  10. Question 2 Cont’d • When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?” So they said, “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” (Matthew 16:13-16; NKJV)

  11. Question 2 Cont’d • And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins.” (Matthew 1:21; NKJV)

  12. Question 3 • Is there a heaven and a hell? • If you said yes go on to the next question. If you said no then consider the following holy writ: • “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 In My Father’s house are many mansions; [a] if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. [b] 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. (John 14:1-3)

  13. Question 3 Cont’d • And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. Revelation 21:2 • Jesus has gone to prepare a place for those who serve Him. This place is the New Jerusalem coming down out of heaven! In many descriptions of what heaven will be and look like fit the picture of the “New Jerusalem” as described in Revelation 21.

  14. Question 3 Cont’d • Hell • 22And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;  23And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.  24And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. (Luke 16:22-24)

  15. Question 3 Cont’d • Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them. 12 And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, [c] and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. 13 The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. 14 Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. [d] 15 And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire. (Revelation 20:11-15)

  16. What does Eternity mean for you? • Question 4 states if you should die now where would you go? By this point you should be clearer on the issues of hell and heaven and what gets you to either place. • For the reward of sin is Hell, but the gift of God is heaven through Jesus Christ our Lord. (Romans 6:23; paraphrased)

  17. How to be saved • What Question 5 is really asking is: “Do you want to know how to be saved?” • 37 Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?” 38 Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.” (Acts 2:37-39)

  18. How to be saved cont’d • And when they had laid many stripes on them, they threw them into prison, commanding the jailer to keep them securely. 24 Having received such a charge, he put them into the inner prison and fastened their feet in the stocks. 25 But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them.

  19. How to be saved cont’d • 26 Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone’s chains were loosed. 27 And the keeper of the prison, awaking from sleep and seeing the prison doors open, supposing the prisoners had fled, drew his sword and was about to kill himself. 28 But Paul called with a loud voice, saying, “Do yourself no harm, for we are all here.”

  20. How to be saved cont’d • 29 Then he called for a light, ran in, and fell down trembling before Paul and Silas. 30 And he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”31 So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.” 32 Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house. 33 And he took them the same hour of the night and washed their stripes. And immediately he and all his family were baptized. (Acts 16:23-33)

  21. How to be saved cont’d • 1 And it happened, while Apollos was at Corinth, that Paul, having passed through the upper regions, came to Ephesus. And finding some disciples 2 he said to them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed? ”So they said to him, “We have not so much as heard whether there is a Holy Spirit.” 3 And he said to them, “Into what then were you baptized?” So they said, “Into John’s baptism.”

  22. How to be saved cont’d • 4 Then Paul said, “John indeed baptized with a baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe on Him who would come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.” 5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 6 And when Paul had laid hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke with tongues and prophesied. 7 Now the men were about twelve in all. (Acts 19:1-7)

  23. Step 1 • Repentance: you must repent of your sins. That means acknowledge your sins, confess them, and forsake them. Decide in your heart to turn away from sinning against God Today! Right now!

  24. Step 2 • You must be baptized in Jesus name for the remission of your sins. “… Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12).

  25. Step 2 Cont’d • You must be baptized by immersion. • And the eunuch said, “See, here is water. What hinders me from being baptized?” 37 Then Philip said, “If you believe with all your heart, you may.” And he answered and said, “I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.”[c]38 So he commanded the chariot to stand still. And both Philip and the eunuch went down into the water, and he baptized him. 39 Now when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught Philip away, so that the eunuch saw him no more; and he went on his way rejoicing.

  26. Step 2 Cont’d • Note the scripture says that they went down into the water and came up out of the water. This description suggests that they were covered by the water. The word baptism comes from the Greek word baptizo which means to be covered or immersed. Baptism must be done in the name of Jesus Christ and by immersion.

  27. Step 3 • You must receive the Holy Ghost. You must be filled with His Spirit. • Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. (Romans 8:10)The Scripture is clear. If you don’t have the Spirit of Christ, you are not His.

  28. Step 3 Cont’d • Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. 18 And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, (Ephesians 5:17-18) • Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem [i] until you are endued with power from on high.” (Luke 24:49) • But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me [a] in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)

  29. The Holy Spirit • Those who receive the Holy Spirit will speak in tongues • He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned. 17 And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues; (Mark 16:16-17)

  30. The Holy Spirit Cont’d • When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord [a] in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. (Acts 2:1-4)

  31. The Holy Spirit Cont’d • While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word. 45 And those of the circumcision who believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also. 46 For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God. (Acts 10:44-46)

  32. The Holy Spirit Cont’d • When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 6 And when Paul had laid hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke with tongues and prophesied. 7 Now the men were about twelve in all. (Acts 19:5-7)

  33. The Holy Spirit Cont’d • The common factor in all these scriptures is that the individuals who were filled with the Spirit spoke in tongues. It is no different today! For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.” (Acts 2:39)

  34. The Prayer • Time to Pray • Your Prayer could go like this: Lord Jesus, I come to you confessing my sins. I have sinned against you by (fill in the blanks). I ask for your forgiveness. I believe that you died for me on the cross and that your death was made payment for my sin. Your resurrection brings hope for new life. I renounce my previous deeds, ways and thoughts and as of right now decide to walk in obedience to You and Your word. I ask You to come into my heart. This is my prayer in the name of Jesus Christ my Lord and Saviour. Amen
