  2. GREET HOEFSTEDE MODEL This model was developed by Dr. G Hoefstede in the year 1984 This is one of the most comprehensive study of culture & society and its impact on the work place. This basically a five dimension model which studies culture and work place. Any society can be examined and on the this model. WWW.PPTMART.COM

  3. Dimensions of Hoefstede Model Power / Distance (P/D) Individualism Vs. Collectivism Masculinity Vs. Femininity Long Term Orientation Vs. Short Term Orientation Uncertainty avoidance WWW.PPTMART.COM

  4. Power / Distance (P/D) Its is the degree of inequality which exists in the society and is accepted among the people with the power and without power. CHARACTERISTIC OF POWER DISTANCE HIGH: Centralization, Large gap in the pay packages. LOW: Flatter organization, supervisor and employees are almost equal.   5. Contd. Application: The societies where the score are on the higher side most of the decision making are concentrated at the top level and open door policy are not practiced. Reverse is the case with the country who score low on Power Distance. Eg. United States Of America WWW.PPTMART.COM

  6. Individualism Vs. Collectivism It refers to the importance attached to the individual and team work. It refers to how a society or people in a culture see an individual and a group. HIGH Individualism society: Where privacy is respected, people have professional and personal life poles apart.   8. Masculinity Vs. Femininity Refers to how much a society values the traditional roles of Man and Women, i.e. the importance tag attached to the different Genders in the society. A masculine culture emphasizes on status derived from wages and position while the feminine culture emphasizes on human relation and quality of life. WWW.PPTMART.COM

  9. Contd. Characteristics: High: There is well defined distinction between men’s and women’s work. Eg. Saudi Arab, Pakistan and Malaysia. Low: All the works which a man can do can be undertaken by a women and successful women are appreciated and admired. Eg. USA, Sweden etc. WWW.PPTMART.COM

  10. Long Term Orientation Vs Short Term Orientation This is yet another dimension on which any society is divided and understood. It divides the society on the basis of the planning and time horizon they take into consideration. Eg. India Long term planning and Singapore Short term planning WWW.PPTMART.COM

  11. UNCERTAINTY AVOIDANCE (INDEX) Relates to the degree of anxiety a society member feels when in uncertain or unknown situation. Characteristics: High: Very formal business conducts with a lot of rules and policies, needs and expects structure differences are avoided.
