NC Child Welfare Data State Fiscal Year 2012 (7/1/11-6/30/12) 132,031 unique children were assessed for reports of child abuse, neglect & dependency Approximately 20% of those were found as abused, neglected, dependent, and or in need of child welfare services 13,844 unique children and youth were in foster care at some point during this 12 month period.

  4. NC Placement Stability Data State Fiscal Year 2012 (7/1/11-6/30/12) • 87.56% of children that were in foster care for 12 months or less had two or fewer placement settings. • 71.44% of children that were in foster care for 12-24 months had two or fewer placement settings.

  5. NC Median Length of Stay Looking at SFY 2009-2010 and SFY 2010- 2011 data, the median length of stay for a child in foster care was about 14-15 months.
