*PRAYER OF CONFESSION (unison) Forgiving God, how many times we have spoken words of commitment and faith, and then turned our backs on these
commitments in order to follow the temptations of the world. We wander after the false gods of greed, selfishness, arrogance, music, social media.
We want you to come in and clean up all our messes, excusing us from any responsibility. Forgive us for such foolishness.
Help us remember the power of your healing love, given to us. Forgive us when we think we know everything and then discover that we have
behaved and thought in sinful ways. Teach us to listen to you and to place our trust in you.
ASSURANCEOF PARDON L: Do not be afraid! In Christ, God comes near to us, bringing hope, joy and forgiveness into our lives. P: God gathers up the clutter and fragments of our lives and shapes
us into new people. For this reason, we lift our thanks to God. Amen.

PROCLAIMING THE WORD SCRIPTURE READING: John 20:19-31
When it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and the doors of the house where the disciples had met were locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, ‘Peace be with you.’ After he said this, he showed themhis hands and hisside. Then the
disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, ‘Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.’ When he had said this, he breathed on them and said to them, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they areforgiven them;
if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.’ But Thomas (who was called the Twin), one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples told him, ‘We have seen the Lord.’ But he said to them, ‘Unless I see the mark of the nailsin his hands, andput my finger
in the mark of the nails and my hand in his side, I will not believe.’ A week later his disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were shut, Jesus came and stood among them and said, ‘Peace be with you.’ Then hesaid to Thomas,
‘Put your finger here and see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it in my side. Do not doubt but believe.’ Thomas answered him, ‘My Lord and my God!’ Jesus said to him, ‘Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have notseen and yet havecome to believe.’
Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book. But these are written so that you may come to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through believing you may have life in his name.
SCRIPTURE READING: Isaiah 58:5-12
Is such the fast that I choose, a day to humble oneself? Is it to bow down the head like a bulrush, and to lie in sackcloth and ashes? Will you call this a fast, a day acceptable to the Lord? Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of injustice,to undo the thongsof the yoke,
to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke? Is it not to share your bread with the hungry, and bring the homeless poor into your house; when you see the naked, to cover them, and not to hide yourself from your own kin? Then your light shallbreak forth likethe dawn,
and your healing shall spring up quickly; your vindicator shall go before you, the glory of the Lord shall be your rearguard. Then you shall call, and the Lord will answer; you shall cry for help, and he will say, Here I am. If you remove the yoke from amongyou, the pointingof the finger,
the speaking of evil, if you offer your food to the hungry and satisfy the needs of the afflicted, then your light shall rise in the darkness and your gloom be like the noonday. The Lord will guide you continually, and satisfy your needs in parched places,and make yourbones strong;
and you shall be like a watered garden, like a spring of water, whose waters never fail. Your ancient ruins shall be rebuilt; you shall raise up the foundations of many generations; you shall be called the repairer of the breach, the restorer ofstreets to live in.
L: This is the Word of the Lord. P: Thanks be to God!
