In India the size of the middle class is not accurately known and it even varies according to which publication one uses to calculate the number of middle class Indians. Ten years ago an Indian publication claimed that the number of the middle class was 60 crores, today a foreign publication has stated that the number is a paltry 3 crore. Whatever be the actual number, the middle class is essential for economic growth in India.
