General Information • Data Mining- process of analyzing data from different perspectives and summarizing it into useful information • Information gathered from data mining can help increase revenue and cut costs. • Allows users to analyze data, categorize data, and find relationships within the data. • Fairly new term, but the technology is not.

  3. General Information • Three major elements • Extract, transform, and load transaction data • Store and manage data • Present the data in a useful format for reporting

Data Mining and Health Care • Purposes • Clinical- compiling data across a group of people/illnesses/characteristics to find patternsto help manage more effectively and increase efficiency. • Financial- data helps to determine where costs can be cut and revenue can be increased • Examples • AHA reporting • DHS survey • ER visits
