  2. Four main branches of Oceanography: • Physical • Chemical • Life • Movements of the Oceans

  3. Physical Oceanography -includes all the physical features that make up the oceans. -examples: continental shelf, slope, and rise; trenches, abyssal plains, ridges, and seamounts.

  4. Chemical Oceanography -includes the various properties of ocean water. -examples: composition, salinity, temperature, density, and color.

  5. Life in the Oceans -the various life forms and zones of life found in the oceans.

  6. Movements of the Oceans -includes currents, waves, tides and the different conditions that affect them.
