Strategy • Responding to You • The Rotary Club Survey indicated that our members wanted more community involvement • 64% of the respondents wanted the club to be involved in the Kalamazoo Promise • The Rotary is for Reading Program strongly supports the Kalamazoo Promise and gets Rotarians involved.
Tactics • Take on Kalamazoo Communities in Schools’ book program • This is the first exposure KPS students will have to The Kalamazoo Promise • Each KPS second grade student receives their own copy of I Know I Can by Wendy W. Rouillard
Tactics • I Know I Can • Represents the first time many second-graders will have a book of their own • Instills a belief in every child that they can go to college • Provides interactive exercises to encourage each child to get involved, and start thinking about college
Tactics • An Opportunity for Rotarians to participate • Two Rotarians visit each second-grade classroom one time during the school year • Read the book to the students • Assist students as they participate in the interactive portions of the book
