6th Grade Science Camp will teach and engage students about: The natural world - Having an understanding of nature inspires environmental responsibility. Human impact on the environment - Human actions can have positive impacts on natural ecosystems. Ourselves and our relationships with others – Learning to live and work in a community are important life skills.
Overview: • Three days, two nights (Wednesday-Friday) • High interest, engaging, hands-on instructional activities led by teachers and experienced camp staff • All activities are STEM based and meet 6th grade state and national standards • Other non-instructional activities include: recreation time, cabin time, whole group skits, and campfire activities
Overview: • Cost: Roughly $135 per student$85 per chaperone • Cost Includes:-lodging (more later about lodging)-all meals and snacks (buffet style)-all activities-transportation -tuition to the Aspen Creed Outdoor School- ACOS
Supervision • Supervision and safety are our #1 priority. • All kids are overseen by chaperones, teachers and administrators. • 5:1 student: chaperone ratio • Structured schedule – 24 hour supervision and accountability
Chaperones: • Provide constant supervision of approximately 5 students • Encourage cooperative behavior among students • Attend a chaperone training/briefing on Thursday, January 14th from 6:00-7:00 pm in the library
Typical Schedule • Wake-up 6:30 AM • Breakfast 7:30 AM • Lunch 12:00 PM • Dinner 5:30 PM • Snacks between meals • Cabin time 9:00 PM • Lights out 10:00 PM

Instructional Activities: • Some instructional activities may include:forestry, nature/history hike, owl pellets, tree ring study, orienteering, topography, challenge course, low ropes, astronomy, archery, gold panning,Animals on the Prowl, campfires, Aspen Creek Trek, Owl Habitats, Earthwalks, Solarville, Water Low Down, Macro-invertebrates
Important Dates/Deadlines: • Chaperone Interest Forms Due November 18th. • By Friday, November 18 – Payment 1 Due if using Installments $45.00 • By Friday, December 16 – Payment 2 Due if using Installments $45.00 • By Friday, January 13 – Payment 3 Due if using Installments $45.00 • Monday, January 30 • “What to Bring” List Sent Home • Permission Form/Medication Form Due • By Friday, February 3 – All Payments Due $135.00 • Wednesday, February 8– Friday, February 10 – All Medication Due (to Health Office)
Important Dates/Deadlines: • SCIENCE CAMP: Students arrive at Power Ranch and report to gym at 7:30am on Wednesday, February 15th. • Chaperones arrive at 7:00am • Return from Camp- Friday, February 17th at approximately 1:30pm
Prohibited Items: • Cell phones • Cameras • MP3 players, ipods or gaming devices • Liquids (aside from water) • Pocket knives • Any item prohibited in our district code of conduct is also prohibited at camp. • Teachers will be taking pictures that will be available to students upon return.
