Period 6: What we know about magnets: • Not sticky • There is a force when you put them together • They attract • They involve some force of gravity
Period 7: What we know about magnets: • Negative/positive side • Put opposite sides together • Connect with each other • Stick together • Vector fields
Period 6: What we want to learn about magnets: • How do they stick? • What causes the force for them to stick together? • How can they attract to what they stick to?
Period 7: What we want to learn about magnets: • How do they connect? • What’s inside them? • How do you make a magnet? • How do vector fields work?

How are gravity & magnetism alike? • Earth’s gravity attracts objects near earth, just as a magnet attracts objects near it. • Both gravity & magnetism can exert forces on other bodies without touching them. • The size of the forces of gravity and magnetism on an object is inversely proportional to the distance between the objects.
How are gravity & magnetism different? • Gravity is only an attraction between bodies. Gravity does not repel other bodies. • Gravity acts on all objects (matter), magnetism does not.
