  1. Sympa/MLIST Workshop Middleware for Mailing List Software

About MLIST • Mailing List software is a long-time, backbone service supporting collaboration and virtual organizations • Mailing List Software would benefit from integration with: authentication, directories, & other middleware • Open Source • Partly funded by NSF ANI-0330543 “NMI Enabled Open Source Collaboration Tools for Virtual Organizations” (Jill Gemmill, John-Paul Robinson, David Shealy, University of Alabama at Birmingham)

  3. MLIST Charter • Research and document the issues surrounding middleware-enablement of mailing list services • Collaborate with open source communities/developers interested in middleware integration • Implement a survey of current university mailing list administrators and users • Test-drive pilot/prototype solutions

  4. MLIST Deliverables • Survey results and mapping of feature set to existing mailing list packages • A simple model of mailing list management software operations, with middleware enablement points identified. • At least one open-source list software prototype • Documentation describing methods for modifying open source list software for use in federated environments.
