  1. Welcome, Parents! Ms. Daugherty’s Second Grade Class

  2. Classroom Schedule This is what a typical day in our classroom looks like.

  4. School-Wide Behavior Expectations • Be respectful • Be responsible • Be safe Scholarships will be given to students following school expectations.

  5. Campus Demerits Given for not following the school expectations. Citizenship Grade • 1 demerit will result in ineligibility for the Collegiate Conduct Award • Campus demerits will affect Habits of Success grade Classroom Citizenship will also affect this grade.

  6. Chancellor Referrals Automatic Referral to the Chancellor for the following: - Class Disturbance/Disobeying Rules - Disrespect to Any Adult - Offensive Language - Fighting -Endangering Other Students - Tampering With or Taking - Forging Signatures Property of Others - Damaging School Property *Office referrals fall under the category of Citizenship, and negatively affect Habits of Success grade.

Classroom expectations • Be safe Walk in class Use chairs appropriately Use supplies correctly • Be responsible Be prepared for instruction Use restroom at recess Complete work neatly and carefully • Be respectful Raise your hand to speak Stop/look/listen Show kindness Respect others’ belongings

  8. Classroom Tickets Good Behavior ~ Students will be given a ticket ~ Tickets will be used for shopping on the last Friday of each month ~ Students can save their tickets up to buy single-subject homework passes from me or a pizza lunch

Classroom Behavior Chart • Fantastic Job (Purple) & Great Job (Pink) • (Earn a 4 Extending) • Good Day (Blue) & Ready to Learn (Green) • (Earn a 3 Achieving) • Think about it & Teacher’s Choice • (Earn a 2 Approaching) • Parent Contact • (Earn a 1 Not Meeting) • Weekly report sent home with graded work

Homework • Read 20 minutes a night • Parent initials (or other supervising adult) required. • Projects • Reinforcement of what your child learned in the day: • Math Daily • Spelling • Science/ Social Studies given occasionally • Reports • Oral Presentations • Each day your child will write down the homework in their agendas. Please check the agenda and homework each night. Read with your child for 20 minutes every night and sign your initials in agenda. This is part of the homework responsibility each night. Students will receive a homework deficiency for incomplete homework, including parent signature.

  11. Homework Deficiency Notice Given if homework is not turned in or is incomplete. First Offense – Can not receive Award! Second Offense – Grade Lowered Third Offense – Grade Lowered Fourth Offense – Grade lowered, I will contact you and we will implement homework strategies. Fifth offenses Mandatory conference with administration, teacher, parents, and student. Individual “Success Plan” Initiated. Further Offenses – Parents will be called and a written notice will be no longer given ***It is important for students to keep homework passes inside their agendas. If homework is not completed according to directions, if a student completes the wrong page, if work is incomplete, or if a parent signature is missing, they can use these passes (if they have any present at the time) to avoid a deficiency. They cannot be turned in after school or the following day.***

  12. Friday Folders (envelopes) • Students will take home a folder every Friday with graded papers, a weekly progress update and a behavior report. • Please go over tests with your child, sign the folder and return it on Monday.

  13. Various Celebrations • Rhodes as specific guidelines for classroom celebrations, to which I will adhere. • Literature day • Winter Break • Valentine’s Day • End of the Year • If you would like to celebrate your student’s birthday, you can email me the week prior to make arrangements. You can bring store bought treats or goodie bags at the end of the school day only. Homemade treats are not allowed.

Common Core Standards • Career and College Readiness • Changes to Language Arts and Mathematics Instructional Materials • Emphasizes proof and evidence • Emphasizes writing to assess knowledge of content • Increase in Technology (Office 365) • Change in GRADING AND REPORT CARDS!!!! • Growth model

New Grading/Performance Levels 4 – Extending = Student has an in – depth understanding of grade level performance standards expected. 3 – Achieving = Student is consistently meeting the grade level performance standard expected. 2 – Progressing = Student is partially meeting the grade level performance standard expected. 1 – Beginning/Standard Not Met = Student is not yet meeting grade level performance standards expected.

Rhodes Awards • Ed-win Award- Exceptional academic excellence and growth • RAH Rhodes Awesome Homework Award: Scholar has a 4 in homework with zero homework deficiency notices for the trimester. • ROC Rhodes Outstanding Citizenship Award: Student is recognized for outstanding character in a certain area. • Collegiate Conduct Award: No Demerits/Referrals and ALL 4’s on Report Card in ALL areas of Habits of Success (including both Playground and Classroom Behavior.) • Rhodes to Success – Perfect Attendance Award (From the beginning to the end of each school day). No tardies, unless accompanied with a Doctor or Dentist note. No late pickups after 3:45. • Rhodie Award: Recipients of Collegiate Conduct, RAH, and Rhodes To Success Awards in the same trimester

WRITING Narrative, Expository, and Opinion Integrated across the Curriculum Organization will be Emphasized Editing and revising own writing with peers and adults Report writing in paragraph format SPELLING Wonders Improving Spelling in everyday writing Phonics, High Frequency, and Challenge words Tests: Need to Spell words within a Writing Assignment.

  19. Speaking and Listening • Collaborative Conversations with Diverse Partners • Plan and Deliver a Narrative Presentation • Produce Complete Sentences • Listen to instruction and when others are speaking
