Not every supplier you meet at a trade fair is right for you. Here are some guidelines that need to consider while approaching to the trade fairs. Trade Shows – The Gateway to International Business
The Canton Fair • The Canton Fair is arguably the most important place to be in, if you are thinking about importing goods from China.Other smaller regional trade shows also provide a great platform for importing products from China or evenimporting from Vietnam.
Trade shows- Number of manufacturers and visitors • Trade shows are flooded with a huge number of manufacturers and visitors. You will be accumulating and processing a lot of data; so it is advised that you carry a diary and note down as much information as you can collect about suppliers. Here are a few basic queries you should ask to suppliers:
Whether they manufacture the product you are interested in • Whether they own a trading company or factory • Where do they export to? • What else do they manufacturer? • What quality control systems do they follow? • Can they private label for you? • The prices of their products
Now that you have your questions ready, here's how to gain an edge at the fair: • Be there early – less crowd means more attention from suppliers • Talk to someone senior - one who has decision-making authorities • Avoid a visit on the last day, especially in the second half; since people will be more engaged in wrapping up than talking about business
Follow-up – The Crucial Part • The follow-up is the most crucial part. Use a secondary e-mail for all correspondences, as you will be getting loads of mails. Shortlist the suppliers, marking some for future consideration and scrapping the rest.
Not Taking Conclusion Too Soon • Research your options well and never jump to a conclusion too soon. Follow these strategies to get the most out of trade shows.
