Strategic Direction Accumulated standardization work volume Next generation Standardization • IPTV market is growing steadily • Development and standardization were achieved for basic IPTV services • Next: for continuous IPTV market growth • We need to discuss standardization themes for next-generation IPTV services. Stable growth IPTV-GSI FG-IPTV time now IPTV subs. delay IPTV-GSI FG-IPTV time
Challenges • IPTV-WG will consider next generation standardization issues in a step-by-step manner. • Standardization for reducing cost and maintaining QoS/QoE • More efficient standardization issues internationally • Harmonization with next generation IPTV services in Japanese SDO and others. • Next generation standardization for advanced IPTV services In ITU-T • Identify next important standardization items • Feed ITU-T standardization status back to the MIC and TTC members, and then make consensus for the next ITU-T meeting’saction plan and contributions to it.
Next Steps/Actions • Important standardization items will be chosen from market trends of in the IPTV services environment. (planned) • IPTV market treads and analyses of next IPTV service in other countries • IPTV service related infrastructure • e.g. • Network: NGN already widely spread in Japan • Already started: IP retransmission of digital terrestrial in real-time • Advanced functionality in TV sets • 3D, Network function, etc. • These examples show an effective environment for next IPTV services.
IPTV Terminals in Japan • Three types of IPTV receiving equipment in Japan • Includes an IPTV receiving terminal function in the TV set • STB type (with HDD connectivity function) • Include an IPTV receiving terminal function in the PC • Governmental policy in Japan • Analog terrestrial service ends in July 2011 • Governmental “eco point” for TV sets, air conditioner, etc. 8
