Adelaide Central Markets Station stage area with public announcement (Alan and Kim) Public entrance is corner of Gouger St and Market Carpark entrance. There will be a roped area to keep the first 100 people in line. • possible photo work station with Albert Einstein as the backdrop? ideal spot for this still in question.
4 Step Process STEP 1: PUBLIC AWARENESS ABOUT THE CAMPAIGN AND DNA SWAB PROCESS (3-4 volunteers) • Runners to distribute Q&A info sheet and consent forms to queue. Can distribute genographic wallet cards wall maps and other genographic material to people queuing. This literature to be supplied by Momentum 2 on Friday morning. • Keep queue interested as they’ll be waiting for a while to get processed.
STEP 2: INFORMATION DESK(2-3 volunteers) • Briefly recap/explain the Genographic Project using key information (refer to Q&A and media release) . Answer public enquiries and ensure they understand what they are consenting to and that they will be photographed and waiver anonymity . Be familiar with the Q&A fact sheet. Inform participants not to lose their GPID number. It is their responsibility to access their results. Ensure participant is 18 years of age or over. • 2 consent forms required (front and back, see hardcopy handouts, plus the kit provided one – brief them about the Paternal lineage – Y chromosome (men only ) or Maternal lineage – mtDNA (women or men). Ask them are they happy to partake given the information and get them to sign consent forms and move them to the swabbing station with their forms signed.
STEP 3: SWABBING STATIONS2 tables (2 volunteers at each station?) • Obtain Consent forms prior to swabbing. Ask if participant has any questions. Clarify that test reveals only ancient ancestry, no recent or health related or paternal match information. • Review the consent forms for legibility.Remember , TWO consent forms are required (double sided form) plus the kit one enclosed which allows for the Y or mtDNA selection. Detach kit forms between ones we keep and the ones the participant walks away with. • Mention that results accessible only online using the GPID on barcode on cover of their kit. • Once the consent forms are signedensure the GPID code is written clearly on the double sided consent form. • DO THE SWAB AS PER THE VIDEO INSTRUCTION. • TELL PARTICIPANT THERE WILL BE A FOLLOW-UP REVEAL LECTURE AND GIVE THEM THE INFO FLYER TO TAKE HOME PLUS THE KIT BOX AND USSER THEM TO THE PHOTOGRAPHIC STATION.
STEP 4: PHOTOGRAPHIC STATION (2 Volunteers) • When participant has completed the swab and you have the relevant forms and swabs in the vile, point them to the photographic station, 1 volunteer writes participant’s full name and GPID on a clean A4 paper and asks them to hold across their chest for photograph (in the event their DNA swab is deficient, Genographic lab can get in contact with them to re-swab). • THANK PARTICIPANT for participating and remind them of Reveal Lecture.
Important information • All volunteers to be familiar with each part in case we need to call you to take over another workstation. • Be helpful, you are representing The University of Adelaide, RiAus, IBM and Genographic Project. • Advise public all queries relating to DNA analysis happens in the US and the Genographic website is the place to get their analysis info from. • T-shirts for the day available from Thursday afternoon – ACADers can collect from my office before they head for home. For other volunteers, the EI office on campus or Friday morning at the Markets.
