Physical Dimension Dance… • Builds muscle strength • Builds flexibility • Enhances the cardiovascular system • Enhances circulatory system • Improves balance
Muscle Strength ~ the ability of a muscle to exert force against resistance
Muscle Strength • Abdominals • Develop as movement starts from the core • Develop when holding one’s own body weight
Muscle Strength • Legs • Develop through leaps and jumps (ballet; jazz) • Develop in plies ( ballet) • Develop in quick precise movements (Cha-cha)
Muscle Strength • Arms • Develop to complete lifts and to hold up others in air (ballet, ballroom) • Develop through floor work (modern; hip-hop)
Flexibility • Increases with stretching before, during, and after dancing - Dynamic Stretching - Static Stretching
