  2. The Vision of IL-HITREC For PPCPs to utilize the interoperable health information technology system in Illinois to improve the quality and efficiency of patient care by providing assistance to 1300 priority primary care physicians, who will meet meaningful use requirements.

  3. Overview of IL-HITREC Mission Leverage existing expertise and resources to implement: • Outreach to PPCPs • Education • Technical assistance that is necessary to assist Illinois PPCPs to accomplish the goal of attaining or exceeding meaningful use of certified EHRs.

  6. HIT Issues • Low adoption rates for EHR, more pronounced in rural areas 15-20% and even less at MU requirements • Access to capital for IT investment • Resources for education – initial or ongoing • Lack of IT strategy/planning process • Infrastructure issues – Broadband/cost

Impact of EHR Adoption /MU • Training needed for existing workforce as well as demand for new workers created by move to greater HIT penetration in healthcare organizations • Age demographics of rural areas will have an impact on workforce for HIT • Other employment opportunities as competition for HIT skills increases

  8. Critical Skills to Survive and Thrive in Changing Healthcare Environment • Stay current • Out- of-box thinking skills extremely beneficial • Understand the operational but perceive the “Bigger Picture” • NETWORK, NETWORK, NETWORK!
