Buzkashi = “Goat Grabbing” The goal of Buzkashi is for a player, on horseback, to grab the carcass of a headless goat or calf and pitch it across a goal line or into a target circle. Buzkashi is not played regularly. If played, the chosen day is Sunday and 10 days prior notice is required. There is no entrance fee, but a special match can cost as much as $60,000 to $70,000. American anthropologist, G. Whitney Azoy, describes this game as being a metaphor for life in this area of the world – “brutal, chaotic, a continual fight for control.” Note: In the United States and Western Europe, a non-mounted version of Buzkashi is known as "Sheep Rugby." Two teams complete for control of a stuffed fabric sheep. The side whose members return the largest portion of the fake sheep score one point. Play continues until either side scores two points.
Wild Boar Hunting - Pakistan has many interesting animals to hunt, but the most plentiful is the wild boar. These animals are actually considered “a plague” because there are so many of them. There is no limit to the number or season of hunting this animal. Mountain Biking - Karakarom Highway, known as the 8th Wonder of the World Fishing – Tuna, Marlin, Carp, Trout
Field Hockey – Pakistan’s national sport Cricket is the most popular game in Pakistan. The game is taken quite seriously as the national cricket team won the 1992 Cricket World Cup (bet you didn’t know there was one)! Pakistan hosted the games in 1987 and 1996 and was also the runner-up in 1999.
White Water Rafting, Canoeing, Boating, and Sailing Many rivers flow from Pakistan’s mountains. These rivers meet at different points in the mighty Indus river and ultimately flow into the Arabian Sea. Many of these rivers are open for water sports.
Pakistan is well known for high altitude climbing, but many rock faces still remain untouched. The Trango Towers in the Baltoro area are well known. The Himalaya and Hindukush mountain ranges are also ideal for rock climbing.
