  2. It goes with out saying, that face to face international contacts can go a long way to fostering and developing future partnerships.

International Professional Opportunity Development “grant” was born as means to: • to provide faculty development opportunities in international contexts, • to obtain and foster relevant college/university contact(s) while in the country of interest, • to provide curriculum development opportunities leading to the expansion of international learning in the classroom, and • to educate TCC on the experience.

  7. It is worth mentioning that these types of programs are very budget sensitive. • Our International Professional Development Opportunity grant program is on hold due to current economic conditions and restrictions on international travel. • Hope to some day have the program again.

  8. Today we are featuring two of our International Opportunity Development grant recipients. • Dr. Kelly Allen, Associate Professor, Geography – TCC, Metro Campus • Pam Chew, Associate Professor, Foreign Languages and ESL, TCC, Northeast Campus • I am Doug Price, Dean of Global Education at TCC

  10. Peru 29 million people Agriculture, fishing, mining, manufacturing products such as textiles Arid plains to Andean peaks Lima 7 million-18th most populous city in world. Trujillo 800,00-3rd largest city Arequipa 900,00 – 2nd largest city

International Professional Opportunity Development Grant • Objectives • To visit with colleagues from the Universidad Nacional de Trujillo • Determine GIS capabilities and potential for collaborative research • Begin dialog for the development of an MOU between TCC & UNdT • To gather experience in Peru for the development of a study abroad course • Meeting with ISA, Inc. representatives and touring facilities • Experiencing Arequipa as a potential site

International Professional Opportunity Development Grant • Results • UNdT GIS capabilities: computers not hooked up, no software, no trianing • MOU between TCC & UNdT brought back • Met with ISA, Inc. representatives and toured facilities • Collection of photos and video that can be used in cultural and physical geography classes
