Themes from First Day • 3 Meetings this summer • TeraGrid: Access through Gateways? • SDSC: Broad Summer School • NCSA: Supporting CI • Substantial interest in (summer) internships with (existing) CI projects • Virtual and real CI infrastructure for MSIs • What are needed and actual CI access capabilities (bandwidth) • Leapfrogging as in use of WiMax in Navajo Nation
Cyberinfrastructure/Grid Curriculum • Discuss what modules are needed and what exist at what level • What are prerequisites from Linux to MPI …. • What infrastructure is needed to support delivering curriculum • Intrinsically inter-disciplinary so need a mix of Computer Science and Application modules • Usual trade-off training v education • Can we use Access Grid or equivalent?

Some Grid Curriculum Links II • 1) Build a Grid Service Tutorial • Lisa Childers and others have developed a one-day hands-on "Build a Grid Service" tutorial that has now been given O(10) times with great success. • a) The current online materials are not quite complete or up-to-date • (they will be soon), but they will be soon. However, see: • http://www-unix.mcs.anl.gov/~childers/tutorials/BAS • b) There is furthermore a tutorial book coming out in a few weeks from • Morgan Kaufmann that covers essentially the same material, see: • http://books.elsevier.com/us/mk/us/subindex.asp?isbn=0123694043 • c) Jens Mache from Lewis & Clark College and Amy Apon from the University of Arkansas have NSF awards for teaching grid/GT (initially GT3, now being updated to GT4), see: • http://www.nsf.gov/awardsearch/showAward.do?AwardNumber=0411237 • http://www.nsf.gov/awardsearch/showAward.do?AwardNumber=0410966 • 2) Grid Ecosystem • Lee Liming and others have developed online material and a half-day tutorial on this topic.
