Information about Main railway station The first railway line in Gdańsk was founded in 1852. Several years later a small, provisional railway station was built. Later, it was extended several times. In 1945 the building was burned down. After the Second World War it was rebuilt .
Information about Monument of deporting Jewish children from Hitlerian Danzig The monument is made by an Israeli sculptor Frank Meisler. It's located in the heart of Gdańsk. Five children with suitcases are looking longingly towards the station. There were about 10 000 Jewish children rescued by "kindertransport”.
Information about Wyżynna Gate Built in 1588 by Willem van den Blocke. In 1945 the exterior suffered the most damaged. Repairs and maintenances were carried out in the years 1946, 1949/50 and 1964/65. Currently inside of the building is Pomeranian center of tourist information
Information about torture chamber Built in the second half of 14th century. It was rebuilt by Antoni van Obberghen in years 1593-1604. Nowadays, the Museum of Amber is situated in the torture chamber.
Information about golden gate Built in years 1612-1614 according to the project of Abraham van den Blocke. Stone sculptures from 1648 are made by Piotr Ringering. They present virtues of Citizens : prudence, justice, godliness and agreement.
Information about Armory The armory was built in years 1602 - 1605. This is the work of one of the best architects of the time: Antonio van Obbergan. Nowadays, inside of the building there's a Museum and the Academy of Fine Arts
Information about Long Street The Long Street is the most beautiful street of Gdańsk.The part of the street called Long Market was used as stock exchange in 16th and 17th century. The richest people in town lived there, and almost every tenement has its own unique and interesting story. The oldest houses on the Long Street were built already in the Middle Ages. The most important buildings of the Old City are situated on the street (like town hall)
Informations about town hall The most magnificent building of old Gdańsk is the seat of the city. It was being built between 1379-1492. During the Second World War, in 1945 it was completely burned down. It was reconstructed till 1970. Nowadays it's the seat of the historical Gdańsk city museum.
Informations about Neptune fountain Standing since 1633 in front of Arturs' Court is the symbol of Gdańsk. Its initiator was major Bartłomiej Schachamann. The Neptune is referring to the connection of Gdańsk and the Baltic sea.
Informations about Artus' Mansion The name of the building „curia regis Artus” (King Artus' mansion), built in years 1348-1350 appears for the first time in documents in 1357. It was damaged during the action of the Soviet army. Now the interior of the building is opened for sightseeing- the department of Gdańsk city museum is functioning in the building
Information about Uphagen's house Built in the 70s and the 80s of the 18th century. The building's first owner ( Jan Uphagen) banned making changes in the house after his death. In 1944 the equipment was disassembled and evacuated. Thanks to this nowadays there's a museum of indoors.
Information about Green Gate Probably the oldest of water gates in Gdańsk. Built in the years 1564-1568 as residence of Polish kings in Gdańsk. Today there is a section of National museum in Gdańsk. There are various exhibitions, meetings, conferences and shows. The Lech Wałęsa's office is placed in one of the rooms.
Information about Crane That's the biggest port crane of Middle Ages Europe, one of the most characteristic buildings in Gdańsk. The present form was achieved in the years 1442-1444. When the Soviet army took the city, the wooden part of crane was burned down. After Second World War it was reconstructed
Information about Sołdek The first ship built completely after the Second World War in Poland. It's the prototype of 29 other ships built in the years 1949-1954 in Gdańsk shipyard. It's got the surname of Stanisław Sołdek (in those times: tracer)
Information about St Katarzyna Church The church was built in years 1227-1239. During the years 1555-1945 it belonged to Protestants. Inside of the church there are paintings made by Anton Möller and Izaak van den Block. There is also a tombstone of the astronomer John Heweliusz from 1659. During fights for Gdańsk in 1945 the fire destroyed the roof and the part of tower. Because of a strong storm in 1953 the church experienced even more damages. Soon after that decades of rebuilding started decades of rebuilding On the 22nd May 2006 there was another big fire, and because of it the roof of the church collapsed. It is already rebuilt again.
Information about St Mary's Basilica Known also as „ the crown of the Gdańsk city”. It's the biggest Gothic, brick temple in Europe. It was being created for 159 years (1343-1502). Inside there are many amazing Middle Ages and baroque art works (like stone pieta from 1410, a copy of the final judgment or an astronomical clock. During fights for Gdańsk in 1945 the wooden part of roof burned down and some of the bells melted. It was repaired until 1983
Information about St Mary's Street The beginning of the street is next to St Mary's basilica and it ends at st Mary's gate. Cars are not allowed to enter the street. The street was shorter, but it changed when the St. Mary's gate was built (mentioned already in 1484). Excavations confirmed the existence of a lot of shoemaker's workshops next to the street during the Middle Ages
