2. DIPCA DOW INTERNATIONAL PATIENT CARE ASSOCIATION

3. About • Dow International Patient Care Association is a no-profit, non-political welfare organization, that aims (initially) to serve the poor patients presenting at Ojha Campus, DUHS. • “Patient Care” was the first suggestion for its name, which then got changed to “Patient Care Association” and finally to “Dow International Patient Care Association” aka DIPCA.

4. The Idea • From all that we’ve been seeing, the idea for an organization to help the poor patients was somewhere or the other, in everybody’s mind. • Sohaib Tauheed, a final year student at DIMC, came up with the plan to implement, gathered his like minded colleagues Ayyaz, Hannan, Ahmar, A.Basit and started the work.

5. The Vice Chancellor, Dow University of Health Sciences has Highly appreciated this effort. • The Principal DIMC – Dr. Masroor - is the Chief Patron. • M.S. Dow University Hospital – Dr. Iftikhar - is the Patron of the Organization.

6. LOGO • Hakim ibn Hizam narrated that the Prophet (s.a.w.s.) said: “The upper hand is better than the lower hand. (Bukhari, Vol. 2, Hadith 508) • Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w.s.) said, “Seven people will be shaded by Allah under His shade on the day when there will be no shade except His. 6. a man who gives in charity and hides it, such that his left hand does not know what his right hand gives in charity. (Sahih Al-Bukhari (Eng. translation) vol. 2, hadeeth no. 504) 

7. Initial Problems • As a matter of fact, the right path is always difficult to follow. • DIPCA was also struck by various problems, ranging from visiting government offices for registration, getting the bank account made, collecting funds and starting the work. • But, by the grace of Almighty, it was never too difficult for us to stay focused at our aim, and work for the welfare of poor.

8. Aim • DIPCA is not more than a link, between Donors and Needy. • People running it are a group of students who aim to please Allah, serve the community and render their service to non affording patients. “Poverty can never be eliminated, but the effect it has on peoples’ lives can always be reduced”

9. Fund Raising DIPCA’s fundraising has to be in guidelines set by its patrons i.e. Principal, DIMC and M.S , Dow University Hospital. • Can you please Allah by displeasing him? • From all the ways that are in- fashion these days, there are not many options for DIPCA to raise funds and abstain from dis-pleasing Allah at the same time, however, any positive ideas from our members and well-wishers are always welcome. • DIPCA has its own regulations for fund raising and it would only be thought about if God forbid, the funds come to an end.

10. Operating Bounds • Being a newly born organization, DIPCA has limited its boundaries to the Ojha Campus, at present. • By the will of Allah, we aim to expand these bounds and work in other hospitals throughout Karachi.

11. Office Incharge • Organizing committee of DIPCA has planned to have an office incharge on weekly basis. • Office incharge will make sure that registered members are following office rules. • He will deal with any problem that is faced by any member during work. • It will be his/her responsibility to deal with emergency cases. i.e. contact students who agreed to attend emergencies.

12. Take Home Message • If we direct our intentions towards Pleasing our Creator and serving the less fortunate members of our community it will be much easier for us to work in a non-profit organization. • And whatever means we adopt for Pleasing Allah, should not be amongst the things that displease him therefore members are requested to be honest and dedicated to their work.

13. Prayer • May Allah accept our time and efforts, and help us overcome the sins that we commit all day.
