  1. Big Data- A Real Thing • “Big Data” is a Big Deal- Harvard University. • Big Data Universe Beginning to Explode-CSC. • Big data is not a trend; It is a Reality -Forbes. Big Data has long got out of the initial hype and is now becoming an integral part of every organization’s strategic direction.

  2. What exactly is BIG DATA? • No single definition !! • 2. Best way to describe it would be with 3 Vs: • Volume (Terabytes, Petabytes, Exabytes etc.) • Variety (Structured, Unstructured, Semi-structured) • Velocity (Millions of tweets, [comments, likes, tags, shares]-on facebook, per second)
